We had a wonderful sports day today, even though the weather wasn't always great.... but, as they say in the UK, 'At least it didn't rain!' All the children tried new things from badminton to catching rugby balls to skipping to archery and they all did fantastically well. All the children made their own lunches today and we added fresh carrots from the orto and cherries from our tree to the feast. The sports continued after lunch with one of the Hazelhut's most popular games: 'Splat!' In the afternoon, most of the children wanted to cool off in the pool and enjoyed playing with the new high-powered water pistols! Later we tried to mix up the boy/girl divide by having 2 mixed teams to play in the walkie talkie treasure hunt and it worked! They cooperated just enough to solve the clues and find the treasure..... then they headed back to separate camps! Before dinner we lit a fire using a flint and steel and then the pizza arrived and it was delicious!!!! Everyone was very hungry after using up so much energy in the sports.

It was lovely to welcome back some previous Hazelhutters and to say hello to some new ones at the start of our first week of summer camp. There was a clear boy/girl divide from the start and this came through in our first activity - designing a drinking cup..... And later in the choice of activities: football and making bracelets. Then the boys wanted to play 'Perudo' and the girls relaxed..... Dinner was a delicious lasagne with garden salad and the children all ate well. There was time for a play afterwards - the girls headed for the new tree house and the boys couldn't leave the football alone! Now they are all clean and getting ready for a DVD, but who will win the choice of films - boys or girls?
Most of the sunflowers have germinated, but 13 are still not showing their heads.... In the lead is Carolina at 14.8cm, then it's Riccardo L. at 13.1cm with third place currently going to Lorenzo F. at 12.7cm. We still have many long warm days to go, so don't despair, your plant may still grow the tallest before they are planted out in August. Keep checking this blog for updates during the summer holidays.
