A big breakfast was required for some serious energy to spend the day on horseback today. The first step, as always was preparing the animals for their work. Then there were some serious lessons to learn about the art of horseback riding. This was followed by some hard work in the saddle and some relaxing moments too. We can't thank the team at 'La Martingala' enough for the best start to another great summer together! Back at the Hazelhut there was time for a swim to relax those worn out muscles and for some free time too. Some of the children decided to look after our animals during their free time. Next one of the children led a workshop in making para-chord keyrings. It was awesome! After that the children made a delicious ice-cream using our own eggs! Other children helped with dinner by podding a whole load of peas from the veg patch. What a busy day.... e domani si ricomincia!!!!

Our first action packed day at the Hazelhut was a lot of fun and began with rifle shooting. It turns out that in the group we have some pretty good marksmen - perhaps the camouflage was a give-away! Next we changed targets and weapons for archery..... Before lunch we welcomed two more Hazelhutters to the team and everyone was super hungry by the time sandwich making came around. The children enjoyed some free time before the swimming pool was open for fun.... ...and then for more sports! Later the sky clouded over and the children finished off the sports day with some unusual events like the personal skip... ...the cherry stone spit.... ...and the balanced ball catch. The final activities were on the field and might be more familiar to our readers! We were very impressed with the effort and enthusiasm that these fantastic Hazelhutters have put in to Sports Day! Well done everyone.
We can hardly believe that summer camp is here again and we couldn't have asked for a nicer group of children to start off the year! We are also lucky enough to have 2 great helpers from England for this week Of course the number one priority was to introduce everyone to Belen and she is getting used to the sound of children all around her. The temperature has been sky high all day, so the children were desperate to try out the pool as well. They also enjoyed trying out some of the new sports equipment.. .....as well as some of the old! Everyone was very happy at dinner time when Marilena's famous Sunday night lasagna arrived. We have a good feeling about this week.
It was an auspicious day to welcome St. Thomas's Nursery class, as we also welcomed our first Donkey, Belen to the Hazelhut. The children had come to learn about living things and their needs and they loved finding out about all creatures great and small. Other highlights were the tractor rides, singing songs, looking at books and being creative in the art room. Thank you for coming - see you all soon!
