Today we ate breakfast. The most popular thing at breakfast was TOAST! After breakfast we did archery and someone even got a bull's eye! When we were walking to skipping, we found a baby lizard. It was very cute. We all enjoyed the skipping, even JAMES! After skip roping we did penalty kicks. Then we all played rounders - a game like baseball. Then we set out for a picnic after we made our own sandwiches. We found a perfect spot for a picnic and settled down and ate there. We played some games which were fun. Then we went to the pool for the last games of our sports day, followed by a soak in the hot tub! In the afternoon we had a very exciting treasure hunt. Mr. James was at the box of treasure for a long time! It was full of toys and sweets! We made bracelets with the elastic bands from our prize. Then we had a lovely chicken dinner which was good because it was lovely!!!! Thank you to today's helpers and bloggers - Emily, Simon and Sam.

We were really happy to welcome so many new faces to the Hazelhut and to reconnect with old ones. Everyone enjoyed lunch together and then the parents left and the children raced to unpack so that they could cool down at the pool! We refreshed further with some watermelon and then began the first activity: decorating a Hazelhut sun cap. There are clearly some talented artists in this group! Watch out Dolce and Gabbana: this season's hot looks are coming straight from the Hazelhut! Half of the group helped Ottavia digging up vegetables in the garden while the other half played football games with James. Everyone was very hungry by dinner time and we all enjoyed the lasagne and ice cream very much! After dinner we played charades and the name game and we were very impressed with how good everyone was at using English and stepping out of their comfort zones. This is going to be a great week!
The leader of the pack is Flaminia! Only a few millimetres behind we have Giovanna, Lola, Guia, Maria Beatrice, Ivan and Valerio. No flowers yet, though. And the baby of the bunch, struggling to keep in the race is Ahmad A's plant. We have had a very stormy period here and the sunflowers don't seem to have enjoyed it much. This week's growth has been slow.... But with sunshine forecast from now, anyone's plant could become the leader so keep on checking!
The measurements are in, the new leaders at exactly 16cm are Maria Beatrice and Guia! Second places go to Ana, Lola, Flaminia, Caren and Calista. It really does look like the girls have a connection with mother nature!!! At the other end of the spectrum we are sorry to report some non starters..... Luke, Nika, Alessandro, Lavinia, Elliot, Daniel, Nikolas, Leo, Federico, Luigi and Ahmad B. These sunflower seeds have never germinated.... perhaps a greedy mouse came by or a bird or maybe they are just very late... Keep checking the site for the next update!
At 9.6cm we have a new leader..... Flaminia! But as you can see, the 4 runners up are not far behind and they are.... Lola, Guia, Calista and Maria Beatrice. Meanwhile, something has been finding Luca and Federico's sunflowers very tasty! While Nolan's is perfectly symmetrical and untouched. Tune in next Friday for the update!
