Many of the children slept late on Friday morning, so the early birds baked biscuits for their families. When everyone was awake and packed, we took our lovely team of Hazelhutters to Ronciglione to see the village, shop and have lunch. We stopped at the hairdressing shop of one of the children's parents. Then we stopped for some water in a bar and THEN we went SHOPPING!!!! As always Marilena's lunch was absolutely delicious and the children enjoyed looking at all their new acquisitions! Back home it was time for our last activity: KARAOKE!!! Then the first parents arrived and we had our prize giving ceremony. We announced the winners of the sports day, Masterchef pancake and of course the best kept bedroom! Then we sang the Hazelhut song one more time and all said 'goodbye' to each other. Thank you so much for coming, everyone. A special thanks to our helper, Margherita, for all her assistance. Please don't forget that the Hazelhut will open again on 21st August for a further 3 weeks of fun - tell all your friends and enjoy the summer!

Today's trip to Equitrek was unusual in that many children were afraid of going and yet we have never seen so many smiles! In fact, today's photos are so beautiful, we have decided that no text is required - enjoy the smiles. I'm sure you will agree that the pictures speak louder than words - we are going to miss this amazing bunch of Hazelhutters and their beautiful smiles!
We started the day in the vegetable garden before the sun got too hot and picked fruits and vegetables for the day. Some kind children even helped clean the produce. After snack we headed off to different art activities. The boys made puppets with James.... .....while the girls went down to the art room to make book covers with Ottavia and Margherita. After lunch and a good rest, we headed towards the pool for a cooling dip. At the same time our little gourmet made all the pancakes for the 'Masterchef' contest! The contest was wonderful, with some talented little chefs coming out of the woodwork. The children were desperate to find out the winners, but they will have to wait until prize giving on Friday!
Today we headed out for our first trip to the 'fagetta depressa' at Lago di Vico. After a snack and a play, we set up a fire for lunch. Once we knew that our lunch would be delicious, we headed into the woods for a lovely walk. The trees were beautiful and it was a great opportunity to walk and talk and enjoy our surroundings. We found a tree with beautiful roots and a dead tree trunk shaped like a bull's head We looked out for all the plants and animals from the information board and even saw 2 horses. When we got back to the 'camp site', our chef had prepared 12 delicious sausages on the grill. Some kids made friends with a greedy little dog who was looking for tidbits. After lunch we relaxed in the shade, then headed back to the Hazelhut. In the afternoon the kids made bracelets, took a swim and learned the Hazelhut song. One boy knows it so well he sang a solo! For dinner we had delicious garden potatoes and vegetables with fish fingers - YUM YUM!
All of our Hazelhutters were reaching for the top today as we held another fantastic sports morning. All the kids were throwing, jumping, skipping and aiming for the best possible scores to become this week's champions! Luckily there was plenty to eat at lunch for this energetic bunch! And plenty of ways to relax afterwards! Later in the art room, the children made donuts out of socks and other materials - they were very inventive! The day ended with a campfire dinner and a beautiful sunset.
After 2 cold and windy days, the sun finally shone for us as we welcomed 8 new Hazelhutters for another week of fun! After the obligatory going over of rules and tour of the property, we went to say 'hello' to the animals. Not surprisingly the children were desperate to swim..... so they almost all dived in for a quick dip. But soon after they were out again soaking up the sun! After snack we all headed to the art room to make some pegs. These kids are very very creative and they worked so well together. As usual dinner was delicious and we had a lovely sunset to enjoy it with. This week we are very happy to have an extra student helper, Margherita, and she has made the whole day go even more smoothly than usual. Now everyone is enjoying 'Bee Movie' and we think it's going to be a great week - watch this space!
We stuck to the usual Friday routine with the children making their beds, The kids looked like a pretty hip gang as they walked through the streets.... ...then checked out some hot spots and the duomo, where some children seemed to have a little reflection.... ...while others danced in the aisle! We posed all over town and bought gifts to take home! Then we enjoyed a delicious lunch cooked by Marilena before heading back up the hill for the prize giving. Look at our wonderful sports stars! And the winners of the tidiest room! All the children were awarded their Hazelhut certificates and we felt very sad saying 'goodbye' to this fantastic team! Come again soon!
On our last full day together, we thought we would take a moment to reflect on these great little Hazelhutters we have come to know so well.... They have shown us that they can be helpful, positive amusing courageous appreciative entertaining buone forchette! clever and very, very lovely!
It was time for the first trip of the week to the fishing centre at XXX Miglia. We had a good breakfast and headed out to learn about the tackle and bait before finally being allowed to start fishing! Once our first fish had been caught, the rest just kept coming! Then suddenly something completely different came out of the water....... ...... a catfish!!! It was hard work and the children were extra specially hungry - which was lucky because there was plenty to eat. 3 prizes were awarded this week - for the most fish caught as well as the biggest! Thank you so much to the XXX Miglia team for our wonderful fishing trips this year! Back at the Hazelhut there was baking to be done and as usual the kids were keen to go in the pool! Where they had noodle battles and diving contests. Then some kids enjoyed collecting this evening's vegetables from the garden..... ....and they snuck in a few strawberries en route! These kind kids even washed the spuds and now it's up to me to cook them up for dinner!!!! I can't wait to eat them!
Today was our arts-based day and we began by decorating boxes and making bracelets for our families. All of the children were looking forward to our tasty lunch of pasta and garden vegetables and it didn't disappoint!!! Once again everyone was desperate to cool down in the pool by 3pm! This afternoon we all enjoyed the great Hazelhut Karaoke sing along! There were duets, trios and solos, but whoever sang and in whatever combination, all of it was awesome! All this fun made us super hungry.... luckily there were plenty of burgers and sausages for dinner! What a fabulous time we have had today!
