Our last day together was spent sorting out the rooms, tidying and playing in trees! We're going to miss these polite, smiley gorgeous girls, come back soon!

It seems we made the right decision to go to town yesterday as today the sky was grey and it eventually rained pretty hard. We started the day with gardening crafts, picking vegetables in the 'orto'. The next craft the girls attempted was sewing lavender bags in the shapes of hearts or birds - they were amazing! After some free time, they tried out their cookery skills first with 2 fruit crostate (note the Hazelhut monogram!), then with the famous chocolate bananas! We also had a sing along and introduced the girls to the all new Hazelhut summer camp song - looks like it's going to be a hit! Then it was time to get ourselves looking pretty for the Hazelhut last night party - hot dogs, burgers and too much Katy Perry for some (James)!
This morning we woke up and had breakfast. We finished the jars for the apricot jam. Then we went to the town of Ronciglione. We looked around for a little bit until we arrived at the bar. Then we went to the duomo and went inside it. Ms. Ottavia warned us that there was a skeleton inside the duomo… then we went outside the duomo and we had a drawing contest: who drew the fountain better won. In third place there was Emily in second Gaia B. and in first place Giorgia. After wards we went to shopping and we bought a lot of things (especially Jasmine). After that we had lunch: pasta with sugo, chips and chicken. Then we started walking up to the Hazelhut. We had a race of who was first and the winner was Emily. At “home” Emily Gaia P. and Elisabetta had a swim in the swimming pool while the others played with the water. We went to do the shower. We got dressed and we went do the blog. Elisabetta .T, Gaia .P, Emily P. Other things we did today included trying to separate ourselves from the town, barking at dogs, cracking open pine nuts, making pizza, eating pizza, sharing pizza with our new friend Lavinia and her parents who dropped by, eating ice cream and finishing the DVD we started yesterday. PS. This day was programmed for tomorrow, but we decided to change it as tomorrow may bring rain..... (Ed.) This morning we had a breakfast. Then we got ready for horse riding. It took 20 minutes to arrive there. The horses are magnificent my favorite was Pepita: she is fat but very sweet. We expressed our wishes. My wish was go to horse back to front. By Giorgia and Gaia B. Then James and the girls had a delicious and well deserved 3 course lunch at the nearby Agriturismo. After lunch we returned to the Hazelhut for a relax. Then we decided to strip the remaining apricots from the tree to make some pots of jam to take home. Then before dinner we made bunting for our party on Thursday. Each Hazelhutter made a personalised triangle to join to the communal string. We had another huge meal for dinner - delicious risotto, meatballs and peas! Now it's DVD time and the Hazelhut is a lot quieter than usual!
Today we woke up and we had a very nice breakfast with fette biscottate and apricot marmalade. Then we began spots day. Our first activity was archery .we all made a great job but there were only three winners. The second activity was the jumping rope and all of us were very proud of the score. There was a new high score record and it was 102 jumps! Then we has snack with half of a banana. It was delicious. After we had snack we played with water balloons. The couple that did more passes with the water balloon won and got five points After that we had the water balloon activity we went on the tennis pitch and we played the bottle game. We were all versus each other so we had to fight against each other. It was a fabulas game because we spent time together and that reinforced all our relationships. For lunch we had sandwiches. There was meat and some cheese. After we’ve made our sandwiches we sat out side near the fire. Suddenly bees started coming and we had to run all over the place because they were chasing our sandwiches. We finished sports day with pool games. The winner of all sports day was Rebecca. Next we had a treasure hunt. The prizes of the treasure hunt were three candies each and bracelets bands.
By Rebecca and Jasmine A new week of Hazlehut got underway today with a new group. This time it is all girls and it looks set to be another fantastic week. The first activity started as soon as the parents departed and its been non-stop creativity. We had a delicious dinner of lasagne and ice cream! Then in the evening we played charades and the name game before bed. Now the Hazelhut is quiet waiting for tomorrow.....
The last day came round so quickly! We finished our apricot jam jars to give to our families. Then we went to the art room to make a jigsaw as a reminder of the Hazelhut. Our final lunch together was pasta alla carbonara - much loved by the Roman children! Then it was time to hand out certificates of attendance and to say goodbye to the team that survived the Hazelhut! Please come again another time. We are missing you already!

What a day! The first survival task began at 9.30am with making a series of knots in order to secure a shelter. Then came the building of a bamboo shelter, from hacking down raw materials to using the machete to 'clean them up' to sawing the correct sizes and using the knots from earlier to bring it all together. All of the children cooperated well and we had the main shelter built shortly after lunch. Then there was a water pistol fight in the pool for some while others continued to work on the masterpiece. Next came fire and we learned about and tried out the many ways to create it from using a lighter to rubbing sticks together, to using a flint and steel. With the home fire burning, it was time for the final stage - food. Ottavia took the children for a walk around the grounds hunting for edible secrets. We found leaves and berries, nuts and fruits which could all be eaten in order to stay alive in the wild. Valerio even found a four leaf clover! This turned out to be ironic as only a short while later, one of our team was accidentally injured with the rounders bat! It was the first time that the Hazelhut had been put into real emergency mode with a swift trip to accident and emergency. One stitch later and our true survivor was as good as gold. Bravo! The other children were especially glad to have the team reunited as it meant they could still enjoy the best ever Hazelhut desert from the campfire coals - chocolate bananas of course!
Today we went on a 'gita' to the beautiful Parco dei Cimini. We began the day with parachute games. Then had a look at all the animals large and small. Among our favourites were the baby rabbits and an owl that looked like Hedwig! Not to mention the pet harris hawk which Stefano got to perform for the children. Soon Umberto came to join us as the 7th Hazelhutter for the week. He was very helpful and took all of the group into the woods for some fun among the treetops. The children were all very brave and certainly worked up an appetite as they walked and climbed and wobbled their way through the course. Just before lunch we all enjoyed the company of a little kitten called Smog. We ate so much good food at lunch time that we had to have a very long walk to digest it. Our destination is said to be the oldest oak tree in Europe! Even though the weather wasn't super hot, few of the children could resist a dip in the beautiful swimming pool. Then they had yet another game of football before we headed back to the Hazelhut. Thank you for a fantastic day out!
