Today was the last day at the Hazelhut for the Franceschelli family, Lorenzo and Sammy and everyone was a little sad to say goodbye. In the morning, after packing their bags and the final room inspection, we made wooden aircraft in the art room. Next the children walked into town with Ottavia and James. We had a snack on our favourite bench and then walked through the medieval town to the shops! Some of the children bought souvenirs to remember their time at the Hazelhut, then we went to 'La Corte dei Prefetti di Vico' for a very tasty lunch. The children wrote postcards to other family members. All too soon it was time to say 'Goodbye!' and Lorenzo and the Franceschelli family drove away while Sammy returned to the Hazelhut to wait for his grandfather. When Sammy left, the house seemed very quiet! We miss you and hope you all come back soon!

When I arrived I thought that was a big house. I played tennis with the lobster .Then I swam in the pool. for dinner I had sardine pasta and fried veal I think I will have fun here . We can't believe it's time to say goodbye! In the morning the girls packed their bags and then we had time for our final activity - gardening. Each of the children chose a plant then we found a special place in the Hazelhut garden to plant them. We hope they will come back to see them grow! Just before the parents arrived, we played some games and then awarded each child with their official Hazelhut certificate. We really hope to see you all again next year!
Today we walked to the local town of Ronciglione. We explored the medieval area and looked inside the duomo, as well as inside the oldest church in town. We were lucky to be able to visit the house of Suora Mariangela Virgili, who did many kind things for the poor people of this are in the 17th and 18th century. The children also stopped to draw the famous unicorn fountain which marks the town centre. Their pictures were super! Then it was time for the much anticipated shopping to begin! Having spent their money on gifts and souvenirs, we sat down to a delicious lunch of very tasty pasta al pomodoro and veal followed by vanilla ice cream in a beautiful local restaurant. The children had a swim when they got back as the uphill walk was hot, hot, hot! In the evening James taught the children how to use a flint and steel to make fire and we lit our own campfire. We used it to cook burgers, bake chocolate bananas and roast some marshmallows. By that time it was very late, so after an extra strong tooth scrub, the children went to bed and Miss Moll read them a story. There was silence soon after!
Today we headed out to the beautiful countryside to see nature at its best. We saw evidence of wild boar. We heard woodpeckers and we tasted wild plums. Sadly a fox had taken all of the farm rabbits, so we could only see pigs and chickens. It was a hot walk but the children were brave and learned many things. When we arrived at the agriturismo everyone was very thirsty and hungry, but the children couldn't wait to try making their own pasta. It turns out we have some excellent chefs as lunch was super tasty! When we returned to the Hazelhut, everyone was ready for a cool down in the pool, where we discovered 2 baby lizards who had fallen into the water. The pool fun was followed by a relax in the hot tub and then even more swimming. We had dinner and realised that today has been a day where many children tried new foods for the first time! What a great group of risk takers! After dinner all the girls went into the woods together to see what they could find. Then they answered phone calls and began a new movie - 'Parent Trap' - all about a summer camp. How will the Hazelhut measure up?!
