Our final day arrived yesterday and it was time to say 'goodbye' to these kids. We spent the morning shopping in Ronciglione as usual. But, as a treat, we had ice cream for snack because it was such a hot day. Then we took a little drive to the village of Canepina for a very special lunch 'Da Linetta'. Back at the Hazelhut, the children had time to play their favourite games and say 'goodbye' to the animals before the families came. Then the competition winners were announced at our ceremony and we all finished by singing the Hazelhut song, one more time! Our thanks go out to these awesome children and their families for giving us such a fun-filled week. Please remember that we have one more week of Hazelhut summer camp from 26th - 31st August 2018, if your child is interested in attending, contact us as soon as possible.

A hot morning left us thinking of only one thing - the lake! So we packed a delicious lunch and some entertainment and headed to Vico. The children decided that the ping pong table wasn't as good as ours' at the Hazelhut - but the lake certainly made a nice change from the pool! After plenty of play, the Hazelhutters were ready for James' delicious barbecue - chicken wraps and our very special sweetcorn. It seemed like our timing was perfect because soon after lunch the raindrops began to fall and we felt ready for home anyway. Once the shower had passed the children were able to do the long-awaited treasure hunt! Then three of the boys helped to make some tarts for tomorrow's tea party. Our pizza party was full of laughter, fun, dancing and....pizza - of course! We can't believe it is our last evening with these great kids, who all get on so well - it seems like only yesterday that they arrived!
Since the hens have been on peak production, we were able to offer these Hazelhutters a fresh egg each for breakfast and they loved them - well who wouldn't?! A day filled with creativity followed. This group made some of the most colourful and interesting shopping bags of the summer. More children made chickens too! And others went their own way! The rain came down at lunch time and so we had an indoor picnic followed by a drama game or two. There were plenty of moments for being active too..... ....and for playing some favourite games! The children tried out a few treats of their own making(!) at snack time and since our weekly barbecue was rained off, we had an indoor feast for dinner culminating in a very British tradition - fruit crumble - all from the Hazelhut trees of course! 'Delicious!' was the verdict.
Just look at the lovely riders we took to La Martingala today! They were not all so sure about the horseriding at first, but with the help of Giada and her team, most of them ended the morning trotting! The children even helped to wax the saddles after their ride - very good job, Hazelhutters! Rita made us a delicious lunch, for which we were all very grateful and then it was time to head back to the Hazelhut. The boys got busy doing their jobs, which included feeding the pigs and a very kind group of children dug some potatoes for dinner. We made up a delicious dauphinoise to go with our fish fingers and peas and not a scrap was left behind! While this was going on two of the girls were getting creative making bracelets and working in the art room. While the other Hazelhutter relaxed in the hammock.
Today has been full of activity and full of fun! The day began with sports and first up, as always, was skipping - can you believe this guy did 190 jumps???!! And this determined little day visitor managed her personal best of 27! Next up was the water relay - won by the green watering can team.... Then it was time for a snack and a relax before moving on to a new game.... ....'hazelnut ping'! It became very hot before lunch, so some kids took an artistic break to make the now famous beanbag chickens.... Others continued to stay with sports and played in the games room. The kids made their own lunches again - smiles all round! Later in the afternoon the children were thrilled to get into the pool and have a good splash about! Even Pip came down to the poolside to see what all the fuss was about! There was more action as the tennis net finally went up and many of these energetic youngsters enjoyed a game or two. Later in the afternoon some of the group came to the veg patch to help pick vegetables for dinner. We all enjoyed the super fresh sweetcorn and crunchy salad very much!
So here they are - our new set of summer campers for the week! So far they have shown some very healthy habits.... ....as well as a caring attitude towards Boris and Stiva... .... and to the hens! They speak great English, know how to play games and how to have fun.... ...we think it's going to be a great week!
