Today we welcomed the Grade 1 class from St Thomas's who were studying a unit about animals. We spent the half the day looking at domestic animals and their needs. Vincent and Theo need clean water, a few fish flakes each day and a nice little tank. Storm needs plenty of corn and other cereals, fresh water and a warm barn to lay her eggs in. And Pingpong and Giuggiolina need a varied diet of fresh and dry food, hay in their nest boxes and fresh water too! For the other half of the day we looked at some of the wild animals who visit the Hazelhut and the children had to decide if they were welcome or not. After lunch we decided on things we could make to encourage more of our favourite animals to visit and stay ay the Hazelhut. Some children made ladybird houses - did you know they eat all the aphids which attack our vegetables? Some made little containers for sweet juices with big bright flowers to attract top pollinating butterflies! And others built bags for birds to take nest materials and food from - they are great fly catchers! So we all did something to help our 'friendly animals' here at the Hazelhut. What a great day! We loved seeing you all..... come back soon!
